On November 15, 2022, the Willamette Health Council (WHC) team joined leaders from the Gervais School District to participate in their first-ever health fair at Gervais High School. Over 450 community members attended the fair, which included more than 20 local health and social care providers. In addition, more than 80 COVID-19 and flu shots were administered; kids were able to receive fluoride treatments; there were free haircuts, bingo, food trucks and more. In the words of Dr. Creighton Helms, Director of Student Services and Federal Programs for the Gervais School District, “the event was not only powerful for the community itself, but it began to create strong bonds with the district and local service providers as we move towards the development of our School-Based Health Center in fall 2023.”
