“I look forward to amplifying the voices of our community members and accelerating their vision for improved clinical and community health outcomes!“

Prior Experience: Prior to WHC, Jamal was the Senior Director at Bamboo Health, a tech company that specializes in behavioral healthcare coordination. In that role, Jamal partnered with more than 25 state agencies across the U.S., laying out strategies to piece together the gaps of fragmented behavioral healthcare systems, including through 988 crisis management systems. Jamal also worked for OHA for nearly 10 years! During his time at OHA, he was most honored to work closely with their safety-net community health centers to design the Advanced Payment and Care Model program, a first-in-the-nation value-based payment (VBP) for FQHCs.

Role & Goals: Jamal joined the Willamette Health Council in March 2024 as the Health Transformation Manager. Within this role, he will be the program manager for WHC’s Clinical Advisory Panel (CAP). Throughout his previous experience, the following three principals – which he plans to apply to his role at the WHC – have consistently guided his approach: (1) Drive meaningful community impact, or nothing at all, (2) Rapid innovation (fail fast, adjust, and don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good), and (3) Routinely open space for shared learning, exploration, and partnership.

Fun Fact: In college, Jamal was a video editor for the Oregon State Football team and traveled to several of their road games, including the 2008 Sun Bowl (an absolute thriller). He also got tons of free Nike gear through this experience!

Outside of Work: Outside of work, Jamal likes that he can take on the burden of getting beat up by his 5-year old kiddo (daddy is the only person he’s allowed to play rough with). Beyond that, Jamal has discovered within recent years that he has quite the green thumb! His place of Zen is early-summer in his garden, surrounded by another bountiful crop. Lastly, he’s always up for a pick-up game of basketball, football or ping-pong!
